No More Cruises to Nowhere?
By Jen Campbell Cruises to Nowhere are available up until 2016, after that, these cruises are a thing of the past! So, if you’re wanting to book one, do so before 2016. WHY? The Department of Homeland Security and Customs and Border Protection, changed the rules for cruises to or from a US port on a foreign-flagged ship, they must now stop at a foreign port. Therefore this eliminates these cruises to nowhere! Some ships affected thus far are the Carnival Vista from NYC, Carnival Sunshine from Norfolk (which by the way is relocating its ship base to Charleston, SC in Spring of 2016) and the Norwegian Breakaway from NYC, to just name a few ships for now. Here is a response we found online about the new rules: “I think these changes are very unfortunate. Short cruises have always been a great way to introduce the cruise vacation to a new market. Many people use them as a way to sample a cruise line and see if the experience is right for them,” said Jason Coleman, Professor of Travel and Tourism at West Los Angeles College. I happen to totally agree, those unsure of whether cruising is right for them can sample one of these short cruises to see if a cruise vacation is the right fit. Exact specifics of the reasons behind the rule change have not yet been publically published. -
